Given the ongoing public health emergency related to the coronavirus, the IFRS Foundation decided to postpone its IFRS Foundation Conference, planned for June 2020 in Madrid.
However, I am pleased to announce that the IFRS Foundation will hold a joint conference with the World Standard-setters on Monday 28 September 2020. Delegates will hear directly from me and fellow members of the International Accounting Standards Board about our proposals to improve communication in financial reporting.
The conference will explore our proposals for a new IFRS Standard on general presentation and disclosure—I believe these proposed changes could be a game changer in the comparability and usefulness of financial statements. You will also have opportunity to discuss our consultation on accounting for goodwill and whether disclosures for acquisitions should be improved.
Other topics will include our proposals on which we will consult in 2020, including improvements in our Management Commentary Practice Statement, the accounting for business combinations under common control and improvements to disclosures on pensions and fair value measurement.
I look forward to updating you on our work. You will also hear from Vice-Chair of the Board Sue Lloyd and Board members Nick Anderson, Ann Tarca and Mary Tokar. Senior technical staff from the IFRS Foundation will also speak. They will be joined by standard-setters from around the globe, investors and experts on IFRS Standards from both the private sector and from regulatory bodies.
The event will provide an overview of our projects and how we work with the IFRS Interpretations Committee to support consistent application of IFRS Standards.
More details can be found in the conference agenda.
I look forward to seeing you in September.
